Biobutanol technology demonstration plant
The technology demonstration plant is needed to progress the biobutanol technology from the laboratory to the commercial scale. The experimental program for the technology demonstration plant will be directed by Butamax™ Advanced Biofuels LLC.
First product output is expected to be available for further testing and product development in 2010.
The technology demonstration plant will use all the feedstocks currently used for ethanol production such as corn, wheat and sugarcane. The adaption of the production technology so that it can be used with different feedstocks is required to address a wider range of potential licensees going forward.
Kingston Research Limited is also a joint venture between BP and DuPont.
