As a fully resourced technology provider, Butamax is committed to ensuring the effective scale-up of our biobutanol technology over the long term. Backed by the resources of our shareholders, Butamax is leveraging hundreds of collective years of successful scale-up experience through process piloting and risk mitigation at our state-of-the-art Demonstration Facility in the U.K.
Butamax is currently building relationships with refining customers for biobutanol, and will provide a secure, high-value market for all biobutanol produced. In addition, we will offer a full range of services—including ongoing consultancy and technical support—to assist current ethanol producers in retrofitting their facilities to produce biobutanol. For our refiner and producer partners, our rigorous technology development and commercialization strategy ensure competitive positioning in the automotive fuels market with potential in other industries.
Butamax and Highwater Ethanol have begun to retrofit Highwater’s ethanol plant in Lamberton, Minnesota for the production of biobutanol. Butamax’s cutting-edge technology package will include the installation of novel corn oil separation technology, which is an integral part of the full retrofit, and available for installation independently of the first phase of conversion.
Easy RetrofitsToday’s ethanol plants can be conveniently and cost-effectively retrofitted to produce biobutanol.
Partnering with Biofuel Industry LeadersButamax is a strong, well-resourced company that offers the industry unparalleled industrial and biofuel expertise. Our multi-disciplinary technology team includes a diverse range of scientists and engineers with specializations including microbiology, metabolic engineering, bioinformatics, fermentation science, process engineering, process control, technology piloting and scale-up, and biofuels manufacturing technology. While their skill sets are diverse, all are focused on one common goal: bringing biobutanol to the fuels market. Additionally, Butamax enjoys access to a host of world-class technical experts throughout our parent companies, BP and DuPont.
Butamax is also working with leading companies across the existing U.S. biofuels industry—including engineering firms, ethanol producers, logistics partners and co-products marketers—to ensure our new renewable fuel technologies align with current needs. At the same time, we are forging strong partnerships with our Early Adopters Group (EAG), a collaborative effort among leading biofuel production facilities to introduce biobutanol to the market and match production volumes to demand. Formed in 2011, the Early Adopters Group currently consists of seven companies representing 10 facilities and nearly 750 million gallons per year in production volume.
Our patented technology-licensing package offers our partners a compelling value proposition. Butamax began construction on its first commercial facility in October 2013 at Highwater Ethanol’s plant located in Lamberton, Minnesota.
